Specimen Collection Process

Gregory Services and the collection facilities it utilizes employ a strict and exacting chain of custody method of specimen collection to ensure accuracy of donor identification and validity of the specimen.

Overview of the Specimen Collection Process:

  • Donor identification is verified by checking a driver’s license or other acceptable form of positive identification.
  • Donor is asked to remove bulky outer garments.
  • Donor is asked to wash hands prior to collection. (DOT Requirement)

Collection facilities employ the following safeguards to reflect the highest standards of integrity:

  • A single toilet rest room without access to free running water.
  • Toilet tank has a security seal.
  • Dye is placed in the toilet water.
  • Soap or other possible contaminants are removed from rest room.
  • Specimen temperature and volume are within approved limits.
  • Collector performs only one collection at a time.
  • Specimens are sealed, in tamper-evident containers.
  • A specimen chain of custody is maintained at all times.
  • The same collector follows the collection procedure to completion.
  • Specimens are transported to the laboratory by a secure courier the same day of collection whenever possible.
  • Split sample collections are performed for Department of Transportation-related tests.
